It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

When she was dismissed her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
